Bentley’s vision of electric luxury: EXP 12 Speed 6e concept media verdicts

Last week at Geneva Motorshow Bentley’s Chairman and Chief Executive Wolfgang Duerheimer revealed Bentley’s vision of electric luxury, the EXP 12 Speed 6e concept.

An all-electric Bentley will not compromise the quality, refinement and high performance levels expected by customers. Renowned Bentley characteristics such as an immediate, effortless surge of torque and grand touring range will be combined with new high performance technology, such as rapid inductive charging and state-of-the-art on board concierge-style services for an effortless ownership experience.

Bentley’s vision is for customers to benefit from high-speed inductive charging and provide a range sufficient for grand touring. An electric Bentley would, for example, be able to drive between London and Paris or Milan and Monaco on a single charge, and the on board experience will be enhanced for both driver and passenger thanks to the integration of state-of-the-art technology.

Here we take a look at what global media thought of this latest concept.

‘WIRED's favourite feature is one button at the top of the cut-away steering wheel. This button, with a whimsical "rocket" illustration, instantly boosts performance. Passengers have their own control panel on the front fascia to access social media, email and entertainment.’

‘This could very well presage Bentley's next generation of design language. At least, that's what I'm hoping, because it's positively gorgeous.’

‘A couple of the buttons have got a rocketship icon on them. And who doesn't want that inside their luxo-electric gin palace. Plus the dial pack appears to be paying homage to the Star Wars lightspeed motif.’

‘The Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e concept is the first fully electric car that's truly desirable’

‘But wait until you see the inside. It has a chopped steering wheel with buttons fixed to the stumps where the top of the wheel has been lopped off. One is an instant boost button while the other is a speed limiter - whatever you do, don't mix the two up!

The cabin also features high resolution displays, compass-like instruments and an ignition button that looks like it could launch an Apollo mission, rather than engage an electric motor.’

‘Most notable, at first glance, is the open-pore leather that covers the cabin and rear bank of the car. The oxblood patina looks so juicy and rare, it might as well be tartare; it contrasts beautifully with the stark white exterior.’
