Following the launch of the second-generation 6.0-litre Continental GT at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, a 4.0-litre V8-engined version made its debut in 2012. Though around 100 bhp less powerful than the 6.0-litre W12, the V8 engine was both lighter and more fuel efficient, giving the new model an eager, agile and responsive character, further enhanced by a characterful V8 exhaust note. The V8 S version, launched in 2014 accentuated those characteristics, and featured increased power, revised chassis specification and a suite of design upgrades.

The Bentley 4.0-litre V8

The first all-new Bentley V8 since the venerable 6.75-litre V8 of the mid-1950s, the new 4.0-litre featured cylinder deactivation technology, ‘hot side inside’ turbo mounting, power recuperation via the alternator and engine management by 32-bit TriCore™ microprocessor. Together with the new 8-speed automatic transmission these yielded a 40% improvement in fuel efficiency compared with the 6.0-litre W12, while delivering an impressive 500 bhp and 660 Nm of torque (in the Continental GT V8).

Launch of the Continental GT V8 S

The V8 S model was launched in 2014, two years after the original Continental GT V8. Power was raised to 521 bhp (528 PS) and peak torque was also increased to 680 Nm at 1,700rpm. The 8 Speed ZF automatic transmission's calibration was also enhanced to provide a more responsive drive. The GT V8 S chassis had revised damper and spring rates, suspension uprights, anti-roll bars and stability control system and a 10mm lower ride height. An optional sports exhaust system featured redesigned silencers, revised pipe architecture and re-tuned mountings. Top speed was 192 mph (309 km/h) and the 0-62 mph sprint took 4.5 seconds.

Visually Distinctive

To distinguish the new V8 S model, the revised front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser and matric grille were finished in Beluga gloss. Wheels were an open-spoke 20-inch design with red-painted brake calipers. Dark tint front and rear lights were also available as an option and proved very popular.

The Bentley Heritage Collection Continental V8 S

The example in the Bentley Heritage Collection is finished in Jetstream, with an interior in Beluga black hide and contrast stitching in light blue. It’s a left-hand drive model originally built to German specification. Fitted options include carbon ceramic brake discs front and rear and sports exhaust.
